Now, nobody can be sure what was said in the negotiations because unless you were there – or a direct witness is reporting on the contents, its all hearsay at this point.

But information is getting out.

From the American perspective (not a Trump spin), news is leaking of a narrative building that generally supports the above summaries.

1. Economic terms were almost complete – there was almost a deal.
2. Industry pushback – top level intervention to go even more hardball
3. Unacceptable structural demands and sovereignty attacks by Lutnik and the Trump side knowing full well they’d be unacceptable to the Canadian side.
4. Blame Canada.

So you see, it was bad faith actors and bad faith actions by Trump officials who wrecked the almost-deal. We were right to walk away. No deal is better than a bad deal.
